My Go-to Protein-Veggie-Fruit- Smoothie

Every day I make sure to add a healthy Protein-Veggie-Fruit smoothie to my diet. Smoothies are a great way to get more fiber, protein, and nutrients in your diet as well as help meet the suggested daily servings of vegetables and fruits.

Blueberries are the richest of all fruits in antioxidants, which help to protect us from many diseases, including cancer and diabetes. Blueberries also contain a cholesterol lowering compound to help prevent coronary artery disease. Spinach is also rich in antioxidants, vitamins, carotenes and flavonoid compounds, that also help prevent and fight off disease. Bananas are rich in vitamin B6, potassium and antioxidants that help fight off free-radicals and protect us against disease.

Cinnamon is an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial spice that can also help protect us against disease such as diabetes and hypertension. Turmeric is another great spice I like to use due to it's anti-inflammatory and high antioxidant properties. It is believed that turmeric can help fight off cancer and lower bad cholesterol. Flax seeds are high in omega3 fatty acids (good fats), lignans and both types of fiber (soluble and insoluble). Some studies have shown that flaxseeds can help protect us against cancer, cardiovascular disease and lung disease. 

Whey protein is considered a complete protein containing all nine essential amino acids. It has been found that Whey protein can help provide many health benefits including helping to lower cholesterol, reducing cardiovascular disease, improve muscle protein synthesis which can promote the growth of lean muscle tissue and reduce fat. I use Labrada's Lean Body For Her Whey protein isolate, which is a more pure protein with no added fillers or artificial ingredients and one that also contains less lactose than Whey protein concentrates, which makes it a great choice of protein if one is sensitive to lactose. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of spinach
  • 1/2 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 scoop of vanilla whey protein
  • 1 tablespoon of ground flax seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric powder
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup of water 

Blend all ingredients in blender or nutri-bullet. Enjoy cold.
